The official opening celebration of Clouds took place on October 7th on Broadway between 39th & 40th Streets where it will be on display through March 2027. This project was co-produced and curated by CODAworx members Debra Simon Art Consulting and Studio DanReiser, and presented by the Garment District Alliance. Created by internationally acclaimed Swiss artist Olaf Breuning, Clouds transforms the Broadway pedestrian plazas with a playful exploration of nature, scale and the urban environment. Suspended on slender structural frames and reaching heights of up to 33 feet, the sculptures translate the lightness and impermanence of clouds into monumental forms of steel and aluminum.Set against the architecture, traffic and constant movement of Midtown, Clouds invites passersby to pause, look upward and experience the neighborhood from a different perspective. Debra Simon and Dan Reiser have shared this statement on their new production: “At Art Omi, Clouds existed within an expansive landscape, where open sky, changing light, and distance became part of the work. In Manhattan, the sculpture takes on a different life. Set within the density and vertical scale of the city, Clouds enters into direct dialogue with architecture, movement, traffic, and the daily rhythms of the street. The work remains unchanged, but its context transforms it—from an object within a landscape to an active presence within the city.” ![images (23)](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/hs-fs/hubfs/images%20(23).jpeg?width=399&height=501&name=images%20(23).jpeg) First conceived in 2013, Clouds was inspired by Breuning’s 2008 photograph of the same name. Working with Metro Pictures and curator Andria Hickey, Breuning translated the image into a large-scale outdoor installation, with 4th State Metals developing the construction plans and fabricating the sculptures. The work was first presented by the Public Art Fund at Doris C. Freedman Plaza at the southeast entrance to Central Park. It later traveled to the CASS Sculpture Foundation in Goodwood, England, in 2018 and Art Omi in Ghent, New York, in 2020. Now back in New York City, Clouds takes on a new setting among the buildings and bustle of the Garment District. Olaf Breuning’s multidisciplinary art practice spans sculpture, photography, drawing, installation and film. Known for his playful use of familiar imagery and everyday forms, Breuning creates work that encourages viewers to reconsider their surroundings. In Clouds, the soft, ephemeral form of a cloud is transformed into a permanent structure of steel and aluminum, creating contrasts between nature and the built environment, lightness and structure, and movement and stillness. ![clouds](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/hs-fs/hubfs/clouds.webp?width=1482&height=996&name=clouds.webp)   [Back to List](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/codazine) ### More from CODAzine [![](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/hubfs/images%20(23).jpeg)](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/codazine/olaf-breunings-clouds-sculpture-on-broadway-in-new-york-city) [Olaf Breuning’s Clouds Sculpture on Broadway in New York City.](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/codazine/olaf-breunings-clouds-sculpture-on-broadway-in-new-york-city) 28 Oct, 2026 [![](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/hubfs/Shattered%20Uploaded%20by%20Brad%20Oldham%20Sculpture.webp)](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/codazine/the-best-seat-in-the-house-faces-the-artwork-public-art-in-stadiums) [The Best Seat in the House Faces the Artwork: Public Art in Stadiums](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/codazine/the-best-seat-in-the-house-faces-the-artwork-public-art-in-stadiums) 28 Oct, 2026 [![](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/hubfs/Screenshot%202026-10-27%20at%206.13.06%20PM.png)](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/codazine/meet-new-notable-artists-on-codaworx) [Meet New + Notable Artists on CODAworx](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/codazine/meet-new-notable-artists-on-codaworx) 28 Oct, 2026 ## Subscribe to CODAzine ### Relevant posts [Olaf Breuning’s Clouds Sculpture on Broadway in New York City.](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/codazine/olaf-breunings-clouds-sculpture-on-broadway-in-new-york-city) 28 Oct, 2026 [The Best Seat in the House Faces the Artwork: Public Art in Stadiums](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/codazine/the-best-seat-in-the-house-faces-the-artwork-public-art-in-stadiums) 28 Oct, 2026 [Meet New + Notable Artists on CODAworx](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/codazine/meet-new-notable-artists-on-codaworx) 28 Oct, 2026 [Newswire: October 2026](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/codazine/newswire-october-2026) 13 Oct, 2026 ## Your ad here [Learn More](https://www.google.com/) ## Related Posts [![Boston Art Unveils New Name and Brand: Meridian Art Consulting](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/hs-fs/hubfs/meridian%20art.png?width=900&name=meridian%20art.png)](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/codazine/boston-art-unveils-new-name-and-brand-meridian-art-consulting) ###### [News](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/codazine/tag/news) ##### [Boston Art Unveils New Name and Brand: Meridian Art Consulting](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/codazine/boston-art-unveils-new-name-and-brand-meridian-art-consulting) Dec 3, 2025 1 min read After 25 years as a trusted leader in fine art consulting, Boston Art has anno.
