Titled *Threads of Belonging*, the project will feature an 8-by-30-foot handwoven mural honoring the textile traditions of Palestinian, Filipino, and Hmong communities. The artwork is scheduled for installation in spring 2026 on the exterior of the Valley Hi–North Laguna Library. The initiative is presented through a partnership between the office of Mai Vang, the City’s Office of Arts and Culture, and local artists from Culture through Cloth. Funding support includes a grant from the National Academy of Design’s Abbey Mural Prize, along with community contributions, while Sacramento’s Art in Public Places program is providing planning, permitting, and licensing assistance. Councilmember Vang emphasized the project’s civic importance, noting that art can “heal, bring people together, and remind us of our shared humanity.” Echoing that sentiment, Art in Public Places Manager Donald Gensler, long-time CODAworx member, said the building-scale work will “literally weave threads of color and culture together,” highlighting Sacramento’s diversity while engaging library visitors through vibrant artistic expression. Exploring themes of migration, identity, and belonging, *Threads of Belonging* demonstrates how community-driven public art can reflect local voices while strengthening cultural connection in shared civic spaces. \\ [Back to List](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/codazine) [Next Article](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/codazine/standout-work-by-new-members-on-codaworx) ### More from CODAzine [![](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/hubfs/Nourishing%20Self-esteem%20Uploaded%20by%20Jorge%20Rodriguez-Gerada%201.webp)](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/codazine/art-for-social-change) [Art with Impact: 5 Projects Advocating for Social Change](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/codazine/art-for-social-change) 02 Jul, 2025 [![](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/hubfs/ENSEMBLE.s%20Uploaded%20by%20Michael%20R.%20DiCarlo%201.jpg)](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/codazine/creating-together-the-power-of-participatory-public-art) [Creating Together: The Power of Participatory Public Art](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/codazine/creating-together-the-power-of-participatory-public-art) 04 Nov, 2025 [![](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/hubfs/the_pearl_full_orange_01_full-scaled-1.webp)](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/codazine/codaworx-set-to-reveal-first-artists-for-lg-gallery) [CODAworx Set To Reveal First Artists for LG Gallery+](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/codazine/codaworx-set-to-reveal-first-artists-for-lg-gallery) 10 Sep, 2025 ## Subscribe to CODAzine ### Relevant posts [What the 2026 CODAawards Jury Had to Say...](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/codazine/what-the-2026-codaawards-jury-had-to-say) 31 Aug, 2026 [Giant Hummingbirds Land at Richmond International Airport](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/codazine/giant-hummingbirds-land-at-richmond-international-airport) 19 Aug, 2026 [Big Art Loop: How San Francisco Became an Open-Air Gallery](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/codazine/big-art-loop-how-san-francisco-became-an-open-air-gallery) 19 Aug, 2026 ## Get insights and data from CODAreview [Order your copy](https://www.google.com/) ## Related Posts [![The Sublime Expression of Nature in the Artwork of James Tapscott](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Arc-ZERO-Nimbus-Japan-2017-1024x683.jpg?width=900&name=Arc-ZERO-Nimbus-Japan-2017-1024x683.jpg)](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/codazine/the-sublime-expression-of-nature-in-the-artwork-of-james-tapscott) ###### [Creative Placemaking](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/codazine/tag/creative-placemaking) ###### [Environmental](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/codazine/tag/environmental) ###### [Fabrication](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/codazine/tag/fabrication) ##### [The Sublime Expression of Nature in the Artwork of James Tapscott](https://knowledge.codaworx.com/codazine/the-sublime-expression-of-nature-in-the-artwork-of-james-tapscott) Nov 11, 2024 3 min read Art is an expression of nature, human nature, our desire and capacity to trans.
