Complete the Project Overview

Start by entering the core information artists need to evaluate the opportunity.

Call Type

Select the appropriate type of call.

  • Artist Call: Use when seeking an artist or creative team for a commission.
  • Industry Call: Use when seeking fabrication, manufacturing, or other industry resources.

Artist Call is the standard choice for commissioning artwork.

Project Title

Use a clear title that helps applicants immediately identify the opportunity.

Artwork Budget

Enter the required minimum and maximum budget.

If there is no specific minimum, CODAworx currently allows commissioners to enter $0 as the minimum value.

Keywords

Select keywords that accurately describe the project.

Keywords help CODAworx connect relevant opportunities with artists whose work and specialties align with the project.

Commissioning Organization

Enter the organization responsible for the commission.

Project Location

Enter where the project will be installed.

Geographic Eligibility

Clearly state who can apply, including any local, regional, national, or international eligibility restrictions.

Set Your Open and Close Times

Choose when the opportunity should open and close.

CODAworx Open Calls now use an exact:

  • Date
  • Time
  • Time zone

Artists see the deadline converted into their own local time zone, while everyone is working from the same actual closing moment.

Choose a deadline that gives artists enough time to prepare the materials you're requesting.

Choose Public or Private

Public

A public call appears in the CODAworx Open Calls Directory and can be discovered by artists browsing opportunities.

Use this for most open competitive searches.

Private

A private call isn't listed publicly.

Only artists with the direct link can access it, making this useful for invitation-only or curated selection processes.

Write the Project Brief

The Project Brief should give artists enough context to decide whether the commission matches their experience and approach.

Include the most important information about:

  • Project goals
  • Site or environment
  • Intended audience
  • Desired outcome
  • Scope of work
  • Important artistic considerations
  • Timeline
  • Selection process
  • Installation expectations

CODAworx currently allows up to 4,000 characters in the Project Brief and provides basic text formatting tools.

Keep the brief informative but readable. Detailed technical materials can be included as supporting documents.

Add Documents and Media

Use Commission Documents for formal materials such as:

  • RFQ or RFP
  • Project specifications
  • Site plans
  • Other essential PDFs

CODAworx currently accepts commission documents as PDFs up to 30 MB.

You can also add supporting images and other materials to help applicants understand the project or site. Current documentation allows up to six images.

You may also provide a Commission URL if applicants need additional project or organization information.

Choose Your Application Method

You can either collect applications directly through CODAworx or send applicants elsewhere.

External Application

Add your external application link if another system will collect your submissions.

Artists viewing your CODAworx listing will be directed there to apply.

CODAworx Application

Use CODAworx's application tools if you want applicants to submit directly through the platform.

Set Application Requirements

The application options available depend on the tools being used for the call.

Free Standard Application

Current standard applications support:

  • Artist portfolio information
  • Résumé
  • Letter of Interest
  • Up to 3 work samples

CODAworx Toolkit

Toolkit access adds features including:

  • Up to 10 work samples
  • Custom applicant questions
  • Round-based jury voting tools

Custom questions can be useful for establishing eligibility or requesting specific qualifications before applications reach the jury.

Important: Review these settings carefully before applications begin. Once the first applicant submits, certain application requirements—including submittable fields such as work-sample requirements and screening questions—become locked. Toolkit tier is also locked after the first submission.

Preview and Publish

When your call is ready, choose from:

Preview

Review the posting from the applicant's perspective.

Check:

  • Project information
  • Budget
  • Deadline
  • Eligibility
  • Project Brief
  • Documents
  • Application requirements

Save as Draft

Save your work without making it available to applicants.

Publish

Publish your call.

If the opening date is in the future, the opportunity will go live according to its scheduled opening time. If it is already within the application window, the call can become available immediately.
