# Tips For Artists

## Some Tips to Help You Get the Most out of the Platform

CODAworx helps artists showcase their work, get discovered by commissioners, and find opportunities and collaborators across the public art industry. A few small improvements to your profile and projects can make it much easier for the right people to find your work and understand what you do.

### Complete your Professional Details

Make sure your Professional Details accurately reflect the type of work you create and the services you provide. These selections help determine where you appear within the [**Creative Directory**](https://codaworx.com/directories), so choose specialties that genuinely represent your practice rather than trying to select everything.

Think about the terms a commissioner might use when searching for an artist like you, whether that is public art, sculpture, murals, digital art, lighting, mixed media, or another area of expertise.

### Keep your location information current

Commissioners frequently search for artists by geography, especially when a project has local requirements or when travel and installation costs matter.

Keep your city, state, and country information accurate so your profile can appear when someone searches for artists in your area or near an upcoming project.

### Publish your strongest projects

Your projects are one of the most important ways commissioners evaluate your work on CODAworx. Published projects can appear throughout the [**Project Library**](https://codaworx.com/directories/projects) and can be searched by factors such as type of work, budget, theme, setting, purpose, medium, location, and keywords.

Prioritize completed projects that clearly show your artistic style, the scale of work you can handle, the environments you have worked in, and the types of commissions you want to receive more of.

### Fill out the project details completely

Add as much relevant information as possible to every project you publish, including budget, location, medium, project type, setting, and other available fields.

These details are not just informational. They help determine whether your work appears when someone filters the [**Project Library**](https://codaworx.com/directories/projects). If a field is left blank, your project may be excluded from searches using that filter.

### Write descriptions with search in mind

Use your project descriptions to explain more than what someone can see in the photos.

Include specific terms that describe the work, materials, process, setting, or role you played. For example, if a project involved stainless steel sculpture, interactive lighting, community engagement, mosaic, projection mapping, or site-specific installation, say so directly.

Clear descriptions give commissioners more ways to discover your work through search and make it easier for them to understand whether your experience fits their project.

### Make your profile easy to evaluate

When a commissioner discovers one of your projects, your profile is often the next place they will look.

Add a strong profile image, a concise bio, your website, accurate contact and professional information, and enough context for someone unfamiliar with your work to quickly understand your practice.

Your project images may get their attention, but your profile should make it easy for them to determine who you are, what you specialize in, and whether you could be a fit for an opportunity.

### Show the kind of work you want to be hired for

Think of your CODAworx portfolio as more than an archive of everything you have created.

If you want larger public commissions, emphasize projects that demonstrate scale. If you want more work in healthcare, hospitality, civic spaces, or another setting, make sure relevant projects are well represented. If a particular material or medium is central to your practice, make that clear throughout your profile and project descriptions.

The work you feature helps shape how commissioners understand your capabilities.

### Use CODAworx to research opportunities and collaborators

You do not have to use CODAworx only as a place to display your portfolio.

Browse the [**Project Library**](https://codaworx.com/directories/projects) to see what kinds of work organizations are commissioning, explore the [**Creative Directory**](https://codaworx.com/directories) to find fabricators and other Industry Resources, and research commissioners whose projects align with your practice.

The more you understand who is commissioning work and what they are looking for, the easier it becomes to position your own profile and portfolio for the opportunities you want.
