Design Boards: The CODAworx Tool You Didn't Know You Needed
When CODAworx launched Design Boards three months ago, we had one use case in mind. Our members had about a dozen others.
We originally built Design Boards as a simple, elegant solution for commissioners β a way to gather inspiring project examples, organize ideas, and share them with collaborators who may not be CODAworx members. No login required. No friction. Just a clean, visual collection of work that sparks conversation.
Here's an example: a Design Board built around light art, ready to share with anyone in a single link: π Light Art Examples
But our members, resourceful and creative as always, immediately started finding uses we hadn't imagined.
Artists are using Design Boards as living resource libraries β curating fabricators they admire, techniques they want to explore, or collaborators worth watching. Think of it as a Pinterest board with serious creative credibility: π Leading Fabricators
And perhaps the most delightful use we've seen? Using Design Boards as a personal curatorial tool β pulling together the work of a specific artist and sharing it directly with someone who would love it. For example, my friend Peter Hite creates stunning stamp-based art. One Design Board link later, my niece β a passionate stamp collector β had a whole new world to explore: π Peter Hite Stamp Art
The possibilities are genuinely wide open. Architects sharing inspiration with clients. Educators building visual syllabi. Collectors tracking artists they love. Event organizers curating work for a themed exhibition.
We want to know how YOU are using Design Boards. Share your most creative, useful, or unexpected applications with us β and watch for a future CODAzine feature showcasing the best ideas from across our community.
Here are the simple steps to creating a Design Board:
Head to the Project Library (which you find in the top nav bar under Hire). When you see a project that interests you, click on the SAVE button in the lower right-hand corner of the project tile.
This opens a screen with the title Save to Design Boards. Click Add to Design Boards, and give your new board a name. Voila, you have your first Design Board! From here on out, you can continue to add other projects to this board by going through this same process, or add additional boards with other names.
When you click on a Design Board in your collection, it brings up a view of all the projects on the board. You can jump to the full project by simply clicking on an image pinned on the Board. If you want to share this Design Board, add the email address and click the Send Invite button. If you want to send to multiple folks, do this same thing for each individual, or copy the Design Board URL and send it via a normal email.
